If someone searches for a service on Google, most businesses know what they want: visibility, clicks, calls, enquiries, bookings or sales.
But search behavior is changing.
People are also asking AI systems questions such as:
“Which SEO consultant can help a local service business?”
“What are the best SEO agencies for a small business?”
“Who can help me optimize my Google Business Profile?”
“What are some trusted companies that provide this service?”
That creates a new visibility question for businesses:
How can I get my business mentioned by ChatGPT?
The short answer is that there is no button you can press, submission form that guarantees a mention, or legitimate SEO trick that guarantees ChatGPT will recommend your business.
Instead, you need to build a business presence that is clear, relevant, credible, accessible and supported by trustworthy information across the web.
OpenAI states that ChatGPT Search uses multiple factors to determine which information is useful and that there is no way to guarantee top placement. OpenAI also recommends allowing OAI-Searchbot to crawl your website if you want your content to be available for ChatGPT Search.
From my experience working on SEO, Local SEO, websites, Google Business Profiles and search visibility, I see this as an extension of something businesses have always needed:
Be easy to understand before you try to become easy to find.
What Does It Mean to Get Your Business Mentioned by ChatGPT?
Getting your business mentioned by ChatGPT means that your brand may appear in an AI-generated answer when someone asks a relevant question.
For example, a person might ask:
“Who are some Local SEO consultants for service businesses?”
An AI search experience may provide several recommendations, explanations or sources.
Your goal is not simply to force your business name into that answer.
The real goal is to build enough relevance, authority and trustworthy information around your business that an AI system can understand what you do and why your business may be relevant to a particular query.
That makes AI visibility different from traditional keyword ranking.
A Google search might focus on a specific query and return a list of pages.
An AI search experience can interpret the question, retrieve information from multiple sources and generate a synthesized response.
That means your business needs more than a keyword.
It needs a recognizable and consistent entity.
Why AI Search Visibility Matters for Businesses
AI search does not mean traditional SEO has disappeared.
In fact, Google says its AI features continue to rely on the same foundational SEO practices used across Google Search. Google specifically recommends crawlability, internal linking, useful textual content, good page experience, appropriate structured data and other established SEO fundamentals.
The important change is how people can discover information.
A potential customer might:
- Search Google.
- Ask ChatGPT for an explanation.
- Compare several businesses.
- Visit a recommended website.
- Check reviews or Google Maps.
- Contact the business.
The search journey can move across multiple systems.
This is why I increasingly look at SEO as a broader visibility system rather than a simple ranking exercise.
Your website, content, Google Business Profile, reviews, authority, internal links and third-party mentions should tell a consistent story.
How Does ChatGPT Find Information About a Business?
ChatGPT Search can search the web and use web information to provide answers. OpenAI says public websites can appear in ChatGPT Search and that allowing OAI-Searchbot to crawl your content is important for inclusion.
That does not mean every crawled website will be mentioned.
Crawling is access.
Relevance and usefulness are different questions.
Think about it this way:
Crawlability → Discoverability → Relevance → Trust → Potential visibility
If your website is blocked, AI search may not be able to access the information you want surfaced.
If the website is accessible but unclear, the system may struggle to understand your business.
If the business is clear but has little relevant supporting information, it may have a weaker authority foundation.
This is why AI visibility starts with normal SEO fundamentals.
Step 1: Make Your Business Entity Clear
One of the first things I look for when reviewing a business website is clarity.
Can someone understand the business within a few seconds?
Can they identify:
- What the business does?
- Who it helps?
- Where it operates?
- What services it provides?
- What problems it solves?
- Why people should trust it?
For example, compare these two statements.
Weak positioning:
“We provide innovative digital solutions for modern businesses.”
Clearer positioning:
“We provide Local SEO and Google Business Profile optimization for service businesses that want stronger visibility in Google Search and Google Maps.”
The second statement creates a much clearer entity.
It connects:
Business → service → audience → outcome → search ecosystem
This is one reason I focus heavily on business positioning before creating large amounts of SEO content.
Step 2: Build a Strong Website About Your Business
Your homepage should establish your core entity.
But your About page should provide additional context.
A strong About page can explain:
- Who you are
- Your professional background
- Your experience
- Your areas of expertise
- Who you work with
- Your working process
- Your location
- Your service markets
- Your approach to SEO
- Your professional values
For my own website, I explain that I am based in Dinajpur, Bangladesh, work remotely with businesses in international English-speaking markets, and focus on practical SEO, Local SEO, Google Business Profile optimization, technical SEO and AI-search readiness.
That type of information helps establish context around the person behind the brand.
Google’s people-first content guidance also recommends making authorship and expertise clear, including background information about who created the content and why readers should trust that person.
Step 3: Create Service Pages That Explain What You Actually Do
A service page should not exist simply because you want to rank for a keyword.
It should help a potential customer make a decision.
For example, a Google Business Profile service page can explain:
- What GBP optimization is
- Why it matters
- What you optimize
- How Google Maps visibility works
- How reviews contribute to trust
- How local signals connect with the website
- Who the service is for
- What the process looks like
- What the customer should expect
My own Google Business Profile service page follows this type of structure and connects profile optimization with Google Maps, local relevance, reviews, entity consistency and AI-search visibility.
This is more useful than simply repeating “Google Business Profile optimization” throughout a page.
Step 4: Answer the Questions Your Customers Actually Ask
AI search is built around questions.
That makes question-based content particularly useful.
Instead of publishing an article simply because a keyword has search volume, ask:
What does my customer want to know?
For an SEO consultant, questions could include:
- Why isn’t my website ranking?
- How does Local SEO work?
- How do Google Maps rankings work?
- What does a Google Business Profile do?
- How much does SEO cost?
- How long does SEO take?
- What is AEO?
- What is GEO?
- How can a business improve AI search visibility?
- How can I get my business mentioned by ChatGPT?
These questions can become useful articles, FAQ sections, service-page sections and supporting content.
The important point is to answer them from actual knowledge rather than rewriting what other websites already say.
Google’s current content guidance specifically encourages original information, analysis, first-hand expertise and substantial value beyond simply rewriting other sources.
Step 5: Build Topical Authority
One article is rarely enough to establish a complete subject.
Suppose you want your website to become more authoritative around AI search visibility.
You could build a topic cluster around:
AI Search
- What is AI search?
- How does ChatGPT Search work?
- How to get your business mentioned by ChatGPT
- How to make a website AI-search friendly
- What is AEO?
- What is GEO?
- AI search vs traditional SEO
- How to measure AI visibility
Then connect these articles with internal links.
Your main article can link to the supporting pages.
Your supporting pages can link back to the main guide.
This creates a connected topical structure.
It also makes it easier for visitors to move from one useful answer to another.
Step 6: Use Internal Linking Strategically
Internal links are not just an SEO technical task.
They help explain the relationship between your knowledge.
For example, while discussing AI visibility, you might naturally link to your SEO Audit Service when explaining technical accessibility and content gaps.
Your SEO audit service already covers crawlability, indexing, internal linking, content gaps, entity coverage and AI discoverability.
When discussing search intent, you can link to your Keyword Research Service.
Your keyword research service already addresses search intent, competitor analysis, PAA opportunities and AI/answer-engine keyword research.
When discussing local businesses, you can link to your Google Business Profile Optimization Service.
This creates a natural relationship between your informational content and your commercial pages.
Step 7: Build Genuine Third-Party Mentions
This is one of the most important parts of the strategy.
Your website can say:
“I am an expert.”
But independent sources can provide additional evidence that your business exists and is relevant.
Relevant third-party sources might include:
- Industry publications
- Local publications
- Professional directories
- Interviews
- Podcasts
- Expert roundups
- Industry blogs
- Partner websites
- Professional profiles
- Original research
- Relevant community resources
The objective is not to collect hundreds of random links.
The objective is to build relevant authority.
A mention from a respected website in your industry can be more meaningful than dozens of unrelated directory listings.
Step 8: Create Original Information
This is where personal experience becomes valuable.
If you have worked on SEO problems, explain what you actually noticed.
For example:
“I often see service businesses with good websites but weak service-page targeting.”
That is different from saying:
“Service-page optimization is important.”
The first statement comes from experience.
The second is generic.
You can create original value through:
- SEO observations
- Original frameworks
- Technical experiments
- Search-intent analysis
- Website audits
- Industry research
- Before-and-after explanations
- Original screenshots
- Practical workflows
- Expert commentary
- Data you collected yourself
Do not invent statistics to make the article look authoritative.
If you do not have the data, explain the concept honestly.
That is how I prefer to approach SEO content.
Step 9: Strengthen EEAT Without Faking It
EEAT stands for:
Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness.
Google explains that E-E-A-T is not itself a single ranking factor, but its systems use signals that help identify helpful, reliable information, with trust being the most important aspect of the concept.
Experience
Explain what you have actually worked on.
Expertise
Demonstrate your knowledge through useful explanations.
Authoritativeness
Build recognition through relevant sources, mentions, references and professional work.
Trustworthiness
Be transparent about what you know, what you do not know and what you can realistically promise.
For example, I do not promise guaranteed Google rankings.
My website explicitly states that I do not guarantee first-position rankings because search visibility depends on competition, relevance, distance and other factors outside a consultant’s direct control.
That kind of honesty is more valuable than an exaggerated promise.
Step 10: Improve Your Google Business Profile and Local Entity Signals
If you operate a local business, do not ignore Local SEO while focusing on AI search.
Google Business Profile information, local relevance, reviews, business details and website connections remain important parts of your search presence.
Google’s own documentation explains that claiming and managing a Business Profile helps businesses establish their information for Google Search and Maps.
For a local business, I would review:
- Business name
- Primary category
- Relevant secondary categories
- Services
- Business description
- Website URL
- Hours
- Service area
- Photos
- Reviews
- Review responses
- Local landing pages
- Business information consistency
Your Google Business Profile should reinforce the same entity represented by your website.
That means your business name, services, location and positioning should make sense across the ecosystem.
Step 11: Make Your Website Technically Accessible
AI visibility is not an excuse to ignore technical SEO.
Google’s current AI-search documentation says the same foundational SEO practices remain important for AI features, including allowing crawling, using internal links, providing important content in text, maintaining good page experience and ensuring structured data matches visible content.
For ChatGPT Search, OpenAI specifically says that allowing OAI-Searchbot to crawl your site is important for inclusion.
So check:
Crawlability
Can search engines and relevant AI crawlers access the important pages?
Indexing
Are the pages you want indexed actually indexable?
Internal links
Can important articles and service pages be discovered through your site structure?
Mobile experience
Does the content work properly on mobile?
Performance
Are important pages reasonably fast and stable?
Structured data
Does your structured data accurately represent what visitors can see?
Google also says there is no special AI-only schema or machine-readable file required for AI features.
Step 12: Use Structured Data Correctly
Structured data can help search engines understand page and entity information.
For an article, appropriate structured data may include:
- Article
- Person
- Organization
- BreadcrumbList
Use only schema that accurately represents the visible page.
Do not add fake reviews.
Do not claim credentials you do not have.
Do not create schema information that conflicts with the actual website.
Google explicitly recommends that structured data match the visible text on the page.
Step 13: Earn Relevant Digital PR
Digital PR can support AI visibility because it helps create independent references to your brand.
But digital PR should not mean:
“Get 500 backlinks.”
A better approach is:
Create something worth mentioning.
For example:
- Publish original SEO research.
- Analyze local search trends.
- Publish an industry study.
- Offer expert commentary.
- Participate in relevant interviews.
- Contribute expert insights to industry publications.
- Create useful resources journalists can reference.
The more useful the underlying information, the easier it becomes to build genuine references.
Step 14: Make Every Important Claim Easy to Verify
AI systems need information they can interpret and use.
That means important claims should not be hidden inside vague marketing language.
Instead of:
“We are the world’s leading SEO expert.”
use something verifiable:
“Md Mynul Hassan is an independent SEO consultant based in Dinajpur, Bangladesh, working remotely with businesses in Bangladesh and international English-speaking markets.”
The second statement is specific.
It identifies:
Who → what → where → market
That is much stronger entity information.
Step 15: Don’t Try to Trick ChatGPT
Avoid tactics such as:
- Repeating your brand name hundreds of times
- Creating fake reviews
- Creating fake awards
- Publishing fake statistics
- Building fake websites
- Creating irrelevant backlinks
- Manipulating structured data
- Writing pages entirely for AI crawlers
- Generating hundreds of nearly identical articles
These tactics do not create genuine authority.
Google’s guidance emphasizes people-first content and warns against content created primarily to manipulate search rankings.
The better strategy is simple:
Build a business that has enough useful information and independent evidence to deserve visibility.
SEO vs AEO vs GEO for Business Visibility
These terms overlap, but I find it useful to think about them this way.
SEO
Helps search engines discover, understand and rank your website.
AEO
Focuses on making useful answers easier for answer engines to retrieve and use.
GEO
Focuses more broadly on visibility across generative search experiences.
They should not be treated as completely separate systems.
Google’s current guidance is particularly clear on this point: the existing SEO fundamentals remain relevant for generative AI features.
That is why I prefer a connected strategy rather than creating an “AI SEO” system that ignores traditional SEO.
How Local Businesses Can Get Mentioned by ChatGPT
A local business needs another layer of relevance.
Imagine someone asks:
“Who are some good dentists in Manchester?”
A local business needs more than a page about dentistry.
It needs:
- A clear website
- Correct business information
- Strong service pages
- Local relevance
- Google Business Profile
- Reviews
- Relevant local references
- Consistent business details
- Useful content
- Trust signals
This is where Local SEO and AI search begin to overlap.
The same business entity needs to make sense across Google Search, Google Maps, its website and other relevant sources.
What I Would Do First for a Business
If I were reviewing a business specifically for AI search visibility, I would not start by publishing 50 articles.
I would start with the foundation.
Business positioning
Is the business clearly defined?
Search intent
Are the important pages answering the right questions?
Entity consistency
Does the same business information appear consistently across important sources?
Website structure
Are services, locations and topics organized logically?
Content
Does the website provide original and useful information?
Internal linking
Are related topics connected?
Local SEO
If relevant, is the Google Business Profile strong?
Authority
Are there credible third-party mentions?
Technical SEO
Can search engines and relevant crawlers access the important content?
EEAT
Does the site demonstrate genuine experience, expertise, authority and trust?
This is similar to how I approach SEO audits: diagnose the actual problem first, then prioritize the work instead of applying the same checklist to every business. My SEO audit service is built around technical, content, authority and conversion analysis rather than simply producing a tool-generated score.
A Practical ChatGPT Visibility Checklist
Before trying to increase your AI search visibility, ask:
Business
- Is my business clearly defined?
- Are my main services obvious?
- Is my target customer clear?
- Are my target locations clear?
Website
- Does my homepage explain the business?
- Are my service pages useful?
- Is my About page credible?
- Is my contact information clear?
Content
- Do I answer real customer questions?
- Do I provide original insights?
- Do I demonstrate first-hand experience?
- Are my articles connected through internal links?
Authority
- Do relevant third-party websites mention my business?
- Are my professional profiles consistent?
- Do I have genuine industry references?
Local SEO
- Is my Google Business Profile accurate?
- Are my reviews genuine?
- Are my website and GBP consistent?
- Are my local service pages useful?
Technical SEO
- Can important pages be crawled?
- Are they indexable?
- Are they internally linked?
- Does structured data match visible content?
- Is the site usable on mobile?
AI Search
- Is OAI-Searchbot blocked?
- Does my content clearly answer relevant questions?
- Is my business entity easy to understand?
- Can important facts be verified from trustworthy sources?
How to Measure Progress
Do not measure AI visibility only by asking ChatGPT one question once.
Create a repeatable process.
Choose a set of relevant queries such as:
- Best Local SEO consultant for service businesses
- Local SEO consultant for small businesses
- Google Business Profile consultant
- SEO consultant for local businesses
- How to improve Google Maps visibility
- SEO consultant for businesses in Bangladesh
Then periodically check:
- Is your brand mentioned?
- Is your website cited?
- Which competitors appear?
- Which sources are being referenced?
- What questions are producing recommendations?
- Has your visibility changed?
Also monitor your website analytics for AI referral traffic where available.
OpenAI says publishers that allow OAI-Searchbot can track referral traffic from ChatGPT through analytics platforms such as Google Analytics.
The important thing is to measure trends rather than expect immediate results.
How Long Does It Take to Get Mentioned by ChatGPT?
There is no reliable fixed timeline.
That is because AI visibility depends on factors such as:
- Relevance
- Content quality
- Authority
- Crawlability
- Search query
- Competition
- Freshness
- Third-party information
- The AI system’s retrieval and ranking process
OpenAI explicitly says there is no way to guarantee top placement in ChatGPT Search.
So I would be careful with anyone promising:
“Get your business mentioned by ChatGPT in 7 days.”
That is not a responsible SEO promise.
The Biggest Mistake: Optimizing Only for AI
I would not build an SEO strategy around ChatGPT alone.
Your potential customers still use:
- Google Search
- Google Maps
- Business Profiles
- Websites
- Reviews
- Social platforms
- Directories
- Industry publications
- AI search
The strongest strategy connects these channels.
This is why I believe traditional SEO, Local SEO, AEO, GEO, technical SEO, content and EEAT should work together.
My Approach to AI Search Visibility
Over the last 2+ years of focused SEO work, I have noticed that many visibility problems are not caused by one missing keyword.
The deeper issue is often clarity.
A business may have a website but not explain its services clearly.
It may have a Google Business Profile but weak local signals.
It may publish content but have no topical structure.
It may rank for keywords but provide little reason for people to trust the business.
It may have useful expertise but fail to demonstrate that expertise online.
That is why my approach starts with the foundation.
I look at the business, search intent, website structure, content, internal linking, Local SEO, Google Business Profile, technical SEO, authority and trust together.
I do not promise guaranteed rankings or guaranteed ChatGPT mentions.
Instead, I focus on the signals that a business can actually improve.
Final Thoughts
Getting your business mentioned by ChatGPT is not about finding a secret prompt, stuffing keywords into a website or creating hundreds of AI-generated pages.
It is about building a business presence that is:
Clear.
Useful.
Relevant.
Credible.
Consistent.
Accessible.
Trustworthy.
Traditional SEO still matters.
Local SEO still matters.
Google Business Profile still matters.
Content still matters.
Technical SEO still matters.
But businesses now also need to think about how their information is understood across AI-powered search experiences.
For me, the principle is simple:
Don’t optimize your business only to be found. Build your online presence so your business can be understood and trusted when people find it.
That is the foundation of modern search visibility.
